Brave Beginnings is one of the most special books we’ve ever added to our family’s bookshelf.
As NICU parents, this story is incredibly close to our hearts. Reading through the pages brought back so many emotions but more than anything, it filled us with immense pride as we reflected on just how far our little boy, Cooper, has come since his very premature arrival.
We’ve recently started talking to Cooper about his beginning and how his start to life looked a little different from many other babies. This book has given us such a beautiful and gentle way to help him understand his story while reminding us all just how brave he has always been.
You can truly feel the love, compassion, and care poured into every page. Meghan has created something that not only comforts NICU parents but also celebrates the incredible strength of these tiny fighters and their families.
This is so much more than a children’s book, it’s a keepsake and a beautiful reminder that every beginning is worth celebrating. It will be treasured by our family for years to come and I know we’ll read it together many times as Cooper grows.

There truly are not enough words to say how much this books means to me. It completely encapsulated every aspect of what life is like in the NICU. It brings tears to my eyes every time I read it, along with my entire families, and it will be cherished for many years to come. I look forward to the day I can sit down and properly show my miracle boy exactly what he went through to be here & also pay tribute to those looking down above who weren’t as lucky. I used this book as a guest book for my son’s first birthday recently and loved the special messages page added for this. I couldn’t recommend this book enough. As a NICU mum I am so grateful that you were able to find such a beautiful and touching way to tell what really is such a hard journey for all. Additionally the quality and pictures are phenomenal.
We love this book for our brave little girl who started her life in the nicu. We love that the pictures look how she did, and we love that it touches on many different reasons babies might be in the nicu- the big babies and small. Words truly can’t begin to describe this beautiful book. I’m a premmie mama to a 30 weeker who is now 4 and starting to ask questions when she sees photos of her as a baby. This book has explained it beautifully, giving us a way to bond and reflect on her brave beginning! She has claimed this book as her own, even using the little pocket hug to place it on the pictures of the baby “so they feel loved”, she tells me!
I absolutely shed a tear or two reading it. The illustrations are spot on, with the front pages having the pattern of the iconic baby hospital blankets that I hold so close to my heart. There are only a few premmie books on the market, and this one is my absolute favourite. 🩷
I came across this book when I was in the depths of trying to navigate NICU life after my first born entered the world at 31wks + 4. I felt scared, overwhelmed, sad being home without my baby. This book brought me so much comfort and peace to see what we were experiencing had been experienced by another family before, that we aren’t alone in this journey and every NICU journey is different. Every perfectly illustrated picture, the words written plain and simple yet mean the most. It’s an amazing book and so reassuring for parents, like myself, to know they aren’t alone. It’s a beautiful keepsake for our little babies who experience the very brave beginning of life, I can’t wait for my daughter to look back at it one day! Ps all her nurses have loved it I’ve asked them to leave a note in the ‘special messages’ part for when she’s older.
My son was early term and did ICU time. Your book helped explain why he was in and out of hospital so often to our preschooler, and why he was on oxygen for so long. It also just made our experience as a family feel less isolating.
We used your book as a guestbook for our son's first birthday, where close family and his childcare educators have written messages for him to read when he's older.
Genuinely so grateful for this book, you should be so incredibly proud of the message and support it provides to so many families.

I just want to say to you, your book is so beautiful and brings me to tears everytime I read it to my son 🥺 he was also born at the women and children’s at 29 weeks weighing only 680g and was in the NICU & SCBU for 12 weeks we are so blessed he’s now 17 months and doing really well 🤍 but I will never forget his start to life and the trauma of it all still lives with me everyday, but your book really helps me and my family it’s really nice to relate to something 🙏 Thankyou for sharing your story x

I purchased this book for my first Mother’s Day & it was so emotionally beautiful. I was crying on the first page! Tears of sadness reflecting on our NICU journey but also tears of proudness on how strong our NICU little warriors are. It’s been a lovely book to share with family members & will be a child appropriate way to explain to my baby how her life begun and why her newborn photos might look a bit different to her friends etc. highly recommend!

Our now 8 year old grandson who was born at 26 weeks and spent months in NICU was captivated by this book. It led to many questions by him and provided a great opportunity for us to discuss his early life and health issues with him. Well done!
We are so grateful to be able to share this book with our children and family. Our youngest was born prematurely and spent the first 6 months of life in NICU; our eldest child was only 2 at the time, and she had lots of questions which we weren't able to answer.
While reading this as a parent, provoked so many emotions for me. It also provided clarity to both of our girls who have seen many photographs of the journey and didn't know the why.
The illustrations are beautifully done, right down to the different medical interventions such as a CPAP mask, cannula, and pumps.
It explains the journey in a way that recognises the many complexities like the emotions that parents face and the joy of being able to bring your baby home .. finally!
We are so grateful to be able to have this as a special keepsake in our home 💕
